Software Releases, Articles, and More

  • 02/10/2007 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (8.2.3), PEBrowse Professional (8.2.2), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.6.7) have been released.

  • 11/19/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (8.2.1), PEBrowse Professional (8.2), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.6.5) have been released.  Changes include:
    • The PEBrowse programs have been updated with many enhancements.
    • PEBrowse Professional now has improved 64-bit support.
    • The website and its contents are now a wholly-owned division of SmidgeonSoft, LLC.

  • 9/16/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (8.2) and PEBrowse Professional (8.1) have been released.
    • The latest versions of PEBrowse Professional and PEBrowse Professional Interactive include an extensive upgrade to the disassembly engine and feature a new option:  DUMPBIN mode.  This option will display disassembly listings in the "dialect" that Microsoft's tool, DUMPBIN, uses.

  • 8/8/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (8.1), PEBrowse Professional (8.0.4), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.6.4) have been released.  The most significant change:
    • In PEBrowse Interactive, the trace feature has been improved and now includes summary information.

  • 6/18/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (8.0), PEBrowse Professional (8.0.1), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.6.1) have been released.  Aside from minor updates to the last two programs, we are pleased to announce:
    • PEBrowse Professional Interactive now supports v 2.0 .NET executables with full breakpoint functionality (note the new major release number).

  • 6/3/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (7.33), PEBrowse Professional (8.0), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.6) have been released.  Highlights include:
    • PEBrowse Professional now supports 64-bit executables (note the new major release number).
    • Disassembly listings have been tweaked to better display code intervals due to jump statements.
    • An uninstall script is now created during the installation of each utility.

  • 4/23/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (7.32.3), PEBrowse Professional (7.13.2), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.5.1) have been released.  In addition to bug fixes, the new release reflects minor changes in the debugger:
    • The scratch pad font can now be changed.
    • Breakpoints are restored when attaching to a process.
    • Process information is now more complete when running on Window 2003 Server.

  • 3/18/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (7.32.2), PEBrowse Professional (7.13.1), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.5) have been released.
    • The changes to PEBrowse Professional include improved calltree display and subroutine reporting.
    • PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer is now no longer an evaluation copy.  The nag message and evaluation displays have been removed.

  • 3/09/2006 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (7.32.1), PEBrowse Professional (7.13), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.4.11) have been released.  The changes mostly affect PEBrowse Professional.  In a nutshell:
    • The subroutines feature has been enhanced to exclude more items that are not code.
    • The call-tree display has been fixed and improved to allow user-selectable levels and recursion detection.
    • There have also been several bug fixes.

  • 10/31/2005 -- A new version of TopToBottomNT (3.8) has been released.  Here is a short description of the newest feature:
    • Now displays executive objects (objects managed by the kernel's object manager) along with the process or processes using the object.

  • 10/21/2005 -- New versions of PEBrowse Professional Interactive (7.32), PEBrowse Professional (7.12.10), and PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer (2.4.10) have been released.  Changes to the PEBrowse Pro Interactive debugger include:
    • Within the process information display, you can now view other processes that are running while you are debugging a program.
    • From either the memory or the register display windows, you can search for the selected item in the heap display.

  • 10/10/2005 -- We have posted Entry-points Using PEBrowse Professional, an article on using PEBrowse Professional to identify entry-points in Win32 executables.

  • 9/26/2005 -- We have posted There and Back Again or Stepping Through the JIT Thunk Layer as directly viewable web pages (previously only available in downloadable ZIP file format).

  • 9/18/2005 -- We have posted A Tutorial for PEBrowse Professional Interactive - Stepping Through a Microsoft .NET Program from Beginning to End.

    In addition, updated versions of PEBrowse Crash-Dump Analyzer, PEBrowse Professional Interactive, and PEBrowse Professional have all been released.

  • 9/3/2005 -- We are pleased to announce our new site redesign, courtesy of Robert Osterlund, robert.osterlund@comcast.net.  Robert uses his PIKT software as a content management system for the SmidgeonSoft web pages, and to help administer various aspects of this site's operations.

    Expect to see more good things to come in the months ahead.
